Monili app

Monili app •

Monili is a cooking mobile app where users can follow the flow of a recipe from beginning to end, smoothly and intuitively, considering the context of use.

Monili is the project I worked on during my UI design master's program at Talent Garden Innovation School.

Research & discovery

During the research phase, we carefully analyzed the brief that was given to us, using the discovery canvas and system map as aids. This led us to define our personas and subsequently study the journey map.

Our main goal was to improve the user experience with features that would allow them to interact with devices without necessarily physically touching them. We therefore integrated voice commands and the ability to go back and forth by waving a hand in front of the sensors positioned next to the smartphone's internal camera.

Furthermore, we also added features that we deemed interesting and useful for our users that emerged during the research phase, such as the ability to have a shopping list within the app, the ability to customize recipes based on the number of guests, or the ability to search by ingredient.

We also considered and sought to integrate the business aspect, how the app would be economically sustained, by envisioning partnerships for shopping (directly from the shopping list).

This also connects to the gamification aspect: there are different ways to earn points and level up within the app. The more points users earn, the greater the rewards. These include coupons for purchases at supermarkets that are our partners.

Finally, we wanted to integrate a dedicated community section as well. Users can post pictures of their results or share their recipes, or view what other users are posting.

Design process

After defining the functionalities that our app should have, we designed a wireframe to understand how to integrate them and structure our app. This allowed us to conduct some initial purely functional tests and subsequently improve it until we obtained an almost final result.

‍Then proceeding with the design of the components and giving an identity to our wireframe, bringing it to a finished result, we worked on the moodboard and defined our style tile. This allowed us to work as a team, always maintaining focus and moving forward with a project that was visually consistent.‍

After confirming through key screens that everything was working, we finally created the final UI. We tried to give consistency and lightness to the overall design, focusing on micro-interactions and animations to make the final product even more usable.
